Narrated by Rafi' bin Khadij

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ أَخْبَرَنَا يَحْيَی بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ حَنْظَلَةَ بْنِ قَيْسٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ سَمِعَ رَافِعَ بْنَ خَدِيجٍ قَالَ کُنَّا أَکْثَرَ أَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ مُزْدَرَعًا کُنَّا نُکْرِي الْأَرْضَ بِالنَّاحِيَةِ مِنْهَا مُسَمًّی لِسَيِّدِ الْأَرْضِ قَالَ فَمِمَّا يُصَابُ ذَلِکَ وَتَسْلَمُ الْأَرْضُ وَمِمَّا يُصَابُ الْأَرْضُ وَيَسْلَمُ ذَلِکَ فَنُهِينَا وَأَمَّا الذَّهَبُ وَالْوَرِقُ فَلَمْ يَکُنْ يَوْمَئِذٍ

محمد بن عبداللہ ، یحیی بن سعید، حنظلہ بن قیس انصاری، رافع بن خدیج سے روایت کرتے ہیں انہوں نے بیان کیا اہل مدینہ میں ہمارے کھیت بہت زیادہ تھے ہم زمین کرایہ پر دیا کرتے تھے، اس شرط پر کہ زمین کے ایک حصہ کی پیداوار زمین کے مالک کیلئے ہو گی، تو کبھی اس حصہ زمین پر آفت آجاتی اور باقی محفوظ رہتا، چنانچہ اس سبب سے کہ بعض حصہ پر آفت آجاتی اور باقی حصہ محفوظ رہتا، ہم لوگوں کو اس سے منع کیا گیا اور اس زمانہ میں سونا، چاندی کے عوض کرایہ پر دینے کا رواج نہ تھا۔

Narrated Rafi' bin Khadij: We worked on farms more than anybody else in Medina. We used to rent the land at the yield of specific delimited portion of it to be given to the landlord. Sometimes the vegetation of that portion was affected by blights etc., while the rest remained safe and vice versa, so the Prophet forbade this practice. At that time gold or silver were not used (for renting the land). If they provided the seeds, they would get so-and-so much. Al-Hasan said, "There is no harm if the land belongs to one but both spend on it and the yield is divided between them." Az-Zuhri had the same opinion. Al-Hasan said, "There is no harm if cotton is picked on the condition of having half the yield." Ibrahim, Ibn Siain, 'Ata', Al-Hakam, Az-Zuhri and Qatada said, "There is no harm in giving the yarn to the weaver to weave into cloth on the basis that one-third or one-fourth (or any other portion) of the cloth is given to the weaver for his labor." Ma'am said, "There is no harm in hiring animals for a definite (fixed) period on the basis that one-third or one-fourth of the products carried by the animals is given to the owner of the animals."

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سِنَانٍ حَدَّثَنَا فُلَيْحٌ حَدَّثَنَا هِلَالٌ ح و حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَامِرٍ حَدَّثَنَا فُلَيْحٌ عَنْ هِلَالِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ عَطَائِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ کَانَ يَوْمًا يُحَدِّثُ وَعِنْدَهُ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْبَادِيَةِ أَنَّ رَجُلًا مِنْ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ اسْتَأْذَنَ رَبَّهُ فِي الزَّرْعِ فَقَالَ لَهُ أَلَسْتَ فِيمَا شِئْتَ قَالَ بَلَی وَلَکِنِّي أُحِبُّ أَنْ أَزْرَعَ قَالَ فَبَذَرَ فَبَادَرَ الطَّرْفَ نَبَاتُهُ وَاسْتِوَاؤُهُ وَاسْتِحْصَادُهُ فَکَانَ أَمْثَالَ الْجِبَالِ فَيَقُولُ اللَّهُ دُونَکَ يَا ابْنَ آدَمَ فَإِنَّهُ لَا يُشْبِعُکَ شَيْئٌ فَقَالَ الْأَعْرَابِيُّ وَاللَّهِ لَا تَجِدُهُ إِلَّا قُرَشِيًّا أَوْ أَنْصَارِيًّا فَإِنَّهُمْ أَصْحَابُ زَرْعٍ وَأَمَّا نَحْنُ فَلَسْنَا بِأَصْحَابِ زَرْعٍ فَضَحِکَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ

محمد بن سنان، فلیح، ہلال، (دوسری سند) عبداللہ بن محمد، ابوعامر، فلیح، ہلال بن علی، عطا بن یسار، ابوہریرہ سے روایت کرتے ہیں، کہ نبی صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم ایک دن باتیں کر رہے تھے، ایک دیہات کا رہنے والا آدمی آپ کے پاس بیٹھا تھا آپ نے فرمایا کہ جنتیوں میں سے ایک اپنے پروردگار سے کاشتکاری کی اجازت مانگے گا، تو اللہ تعالیٰ اس سے کہے گا کیا تو اپنی موجودہ حالت پر راضی نہیں اس نے کہا ہاں! لیکن میں کاشتکاری کرنا پسند کرتا ہوں، چنانچہ وہ بیج ڈالے گا اور پلک جھپکنے میں وہ لگ آئے گا۔ اور سیدھا ہو جائے گا اور کاٹنے کے لائق ہو جائے گا، اللہ تعالیٰ کہے گا کہ اے ابن آدم! اس کو لے لے، تجھ کو کوئی چیز آسودہ نہیں کر سکتی، اعرابی نے کہا کہ بخدا وہ شخص کوئی قریشی ہوگا یا انصاری ہوگا، اسلئے کہ یہی لوگ کھیتی کرنے والے ہیں، ہم تو کھیتی نہیں کرتے، نبی صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم (یہ سنکر) ہنس پڑے۔

Narrated Abu Huraira: Once the Prophet was narrating (a story), while a bedouin was sitting with him. "One of the inhabitants of Paradise will ask Allah to allow him to cultivate the land. Allah will ask him, 'Are you not living in the pleasures you like?' He will say, 'Yes, but I like to cultivate the land.' " The Prophet added, "When the man (will be permitted he) will sow the seeds and the plants will grow up and get ripe, ready for reaping and so on till it will be as huge as mountains within a wink. Allah will then say to him, 'O son of Adam! Take here you are, gather (the yield); nothing satisfies you.' " On that, the bedouin said, "The man must be either from Quraish (i.e. an emigrant) or an Ansari, for they are farmers, whereas we are not farmers." The Prophet smiled (at this).
