Narrated by 'Abdullah (bin Mas'ud)

حَدَّثَنَا قَيْسُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ عَبِيدَةَ السَّلْمَانِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ لِي النَّبِيُّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ اقْرَأْ عَلَيَّ قُلْتُ أَقْرَأُ عَلَيْکَ وَعَلَيْکَ أُنْزِلَ قَالَ إِنِّي أُحِبُّ أَنْ أَسْمَعَهُ مِنْ غَيْرِي

قیس بن حفص، عبدالواحد، اعمش، ابراہیم، عبیدہ سلمانی، عبداللہ (بن مسعود رضی اللہ عنہ) روایت کرتے ہیں کہ مجھ سے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا کہ مجھے قرآن سناؤ، میں نے عرض کیا، بھلا میں آپ کو کیا سناؤں گا آپ ہی پر تو وہ نازل ہوا ہے، آپ نے فرمایا مجھے دوسرے سے سننا اچھا معلوم ہوتا ہے۔

Narrated 'Abdullah (bin Mas'ud): Allah's Apostle said (to me), "Recite the Qur'an to me." I said, "Shall I recite (it) to you while it has been revealed to you?" He said, "I like to hear it from another person." So I recited Surat An-Nisa (The Women) till I reached the Verse: 'How (will it be) then when We bring from each nation a witness, and We bring you (O Muhammad) as a witness against these people.' (4.41) Then he said to me, "Stop!" Thereupon I saw his eyes overflowing with tears.
