أَخْبَرَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ فَضَالَةَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ الْمُبَارَکِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ وَهُوَ ابْنُ سَلَّامٍ عَنْ يَحْيَی بْنِ أَبِي کَثِيرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو سَلَمَةَ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ وَنَافِعٌ عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَهُ يَقُولُ صَلَاةُ اللَّيْلِ رَکْعَتَيْنِ رَکْعَتَيْنِ فَإِذَا خِفْتُمْ الصُّبْحَ فَأَوْتِرُوا بِوَاحِدَةٍ

عبیداللہ بن فضالة بن ابراہیم، محمد یعنی ابن مبارک، معاویہ، ابن سلام، یحیی بن ابوکثیر، ابوسلمہ بن عبدالرحمن و نافع، عبداللہ ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم سے نقل کرتے ہیں کہ فرمایا رات کی نماز دو دو رکعت ہے لیکن اگر صبح ہو جانے کا اندیشہ ہو تو ایک رکعت پڑھ لیا کرو۔ (تاکہ باقی نماز طاق ہو جائے)

It was narrated from Abu Salamah bin ‘Abdur-Rahman that he asked ‘Aishah, the Mother of the Believers, about how the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم used to pray in Ramadan. She said: “The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم did not pray more than eleven Rak’ahs during Ramadan or at any other time. He would pray four, and do not ask how beautiful or how long they were. Then he would pray four, and do not ask how beautiful or how long they were. Then he would pray three.” ‘Aishah said: “I said: ‘Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم, do you sleep before you pray Witr?’ He said: ‘‘Aishah, my eyes sleep but my heart does not.” (Sahih).
